CA storage grapes

Grapes are very sensitive to Botrytis during storage and to prevent loss of quality, a sulfur treatment is often applied (SO2, sulfur dioxide) via a room treatment or with so-called pads.

CA storage of grapes does not always lead to a longer storage period, but often ensures that the quality of the product is better after CA storage.

The storage temperature for RA and CA for grapes is often set at -0.5-0°C. Target values of 2-3% CO2 and 2-5% O2 are set for CA storage. The storage time can be approx. 2-4 months.

The success of CA storage is largely determined by the quality at the start of storage. Due to the applied CA conditions, the respiration of grapes is greatly reduced and this contributes to a reduction of moisture loss. The increased CO2 content inhibits mold growth.

Grapes can be stored in individual pallet covers as well as in CA cells. If the need for CA storage capacity is limited, pallet covers can be used.
