active fire prevention

24/7 Active fire prevention with decreased oxygen-level (<17%)

How does it work ?

The Fire Triangle or Combustion Triangle is a simple model for understanding the necessary ingredients for most fires.

The triangle illustrates the three elements a fire needs to ignite: heat, fuel, and an oxidizing agent (usually oxygen). A fire naturally occurs when the elements are present and combined in the right mixture, meaning that fire is actually an event rather than a thing. A fire can be prevented or extinguished by removing any one of the elements in the fire triangle. For example, covering a fire with a fire blanket removes the oxygen part of the triangle and can extinguish a fire. In case of closed areas, like warehouses, storagerooms, serverrooms etc, the oxygen level can be lowered using an nitrogen generator which is in fact an oxygen scrubber.  By reducing the oxygen below 17% , fire will not ignate in those closed areas.

Advantages of hypoxic fire prevention

an active fire prevention system based on hypoxic oxygen levels, the damage caused by a fire is reduced to zero. With fire extinguishers  like  sprinklers, CO2 or foam/powder , only interfere when the fire has just started. As soon as heat is detected, an extinguisher reduces the damage caused by fire but as a side-effect also damages the product, building and even environment. For closed areas the hypoxic fire prevention system is the best solution to prevent a fire to ignate.

Advantages :
  • 24/7 protection
  • zero damage
  • not dangerous for humans and animals
  • no need for a fire extinguisher system
  • environmental friendly
  • approved technology by authorities

Our Technology

To reach hypoxic conditions, Storex uses VSA technology (vacuum swing adsorption) to produce nitrogen gas. The advantage of VSA technology is that the process uses far less energy to produce nitrogen gas then a PSA (pressure swing adsorption) or membrane system. In combination with our oil-free claw-compression pumps from Busch , the cost of maintenance is reduced to an absolute minimum. In the Cryogas Magazine a case study is published, comparing the VSA with the PSA technology applied in waste water treatment, article VSA vs PSA .

In short the benefits of our VSA technology :
  1. lowest energy consumption / Nm3 N2 gas
  2. lowest maintenance cost / Nm3 N2 gas
  3. long service intervalls
  4. lowest cost of ownership
  5. no attrition of the absorbent material
